Dick, W. and Carey, L. (1996). Harper Collins. Considered foundational material for instructional design training, this text covers the fundamentals of design, development, and evaluation of instructional design.

Instructional Design. 2nd ed.

Smith, P. L. and Tillman, J. R. (1999). Prentice-Hall. This exploration of some of the theoretical instructional design issues includes sections on needs assessment, learning tasks and learners, and information on formative and summative evaluation.
