Topic A7: Identifying and Assessing Available Technologies - About the Author

Cynthia L McCourt

1) Masters in Education, Instructional Technology, George Mason University, 2000

2) Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Education, George Mason University

3) Faculty Support Specialist/Instructional Technologist, Instructional Resource Center, George Mason University

My area of expertise is in web/instructional technology design and development. I teach the Web-based Instructional Tools courses for the Graduate School of Education and I also teach the faculty at Mason how to use various technologies and assist them in the integration of this technology into their courses.

I have had opportunities to explore and use several distance or online tools in my work as a student and as an instructor. With these opportunities, I have had a chance to explore why and when such devices and tools should be used. As a classroom teacher, I use online resources and tools as part of the total experience. I have been using WebCT, an online course delivery and management system, since May 99 - as an instructor (classroom and workshop trainer), student, and a consultant to faculty.
